Our Story

We used to be a tiny coffee shop on the corner of rue Adolphe Fischer, now we are a little bit bigger, and just across the street on rue d’ Anvers. Our mission is still the same: source beans from farmers we know across East Africa and serve coffee with honesty and transparency. Sometimes we are able to buy direct trade (like our coffee from Ms. Murakatete in RWANDA), and if not direct, we are proud to say we source with people in the coffee business doing honest work: Agri Evolve (Rwenzori Coffee Co.) for our Ugandan, OSITO for our Ethiopians, Cuprima importer of KALICO for our Burundi and BELCO for our French Mission Kenya.

PLACE: Florence is an independent coffeeshop tucked away in a quiet corner of the Luxembourg Gare quarter. We like to think of ourselves as a friendly neighbourhood place welcome to all! If you are a regular, then you know that we are big on community building; join us for our monthly OPEN MIC night or our Decafe and Diapers club (just for Moms).

COFFEE: we use top notch specialty beans from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Burundi. Using only African origins is a choice we’ve made in solidarity towards developing rural East Africa. Our friends Bram and Yumi at PARLOR COFFEE ROASTERS in Brussels handle our amazing single origin roasts.

FOOD: we serve simple homemade dishes from 8-14:30h on weekdays and 9-16h on weekends.

A note from Kelsey

“Even though we are a continent apart, I try my best to keep close ties with the coffee farmers and exporters where we source our beans from in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and Kenya. I am traveling frequently to East Africa to meet with locals in the coffee industry because for me it is really important to witness first-hand the ongoing challenges faced by coffee-growing communities—be that social, economic and environmental. It is through attempting to understand these complexities that I make conscious choices about how to buy coffee as responsibly as possible.”
